Kevin Veldhuisen opened Woodgrain Custom Builds (originally named The Creation Workshop) back in 2015, but has been woodworking since 2007 when he bought his first miter saw and started building simple furnishings for his wife, Anne, and their family. Over the years he has transitioned from simple furnishings to building entire kitchens and office suites, and everything in between.
In addition to woodworking Kevin loves to spend time with his family, especially outdoors. He also loves to make wine, because without that what’s one to drink when sitting around a beautifully crafted table?

Artistry and attention to detail leads our process. As opposed to factory made furnishings, we hand select each board that goes into your build. We take special care in considering the grain pattern, color, and quality of each piece.

We take care in our projects and want to allow ample time to assure quality and care. Typical time frames for projects range from three to eight weeks depending on type and complexity.

Quality in every build includes sourcing materials responsibly and mindfully. All our materials are purchased locally or sustainably sourced.

We install all of our projects in order to ensure that the entire build process, from start to finish, is the highest quality possible.

Yes, a 50% deposit is requested and then the build begins!

Our preferred styles are Shaker, Swedish Modern, and Mid-Century Modern. But we are able to work with any style that best suits your tastes.

We always start with the function, which informs the form. When considering a build, think about the purpose of the piece(s) and remember to dream big! We can always scale back if necessary, but it is difficult to add things later in the process.
Timeline is another critical consideration. When are you hoping to have it done and is there an absolute date that you need the project completed?
Materials are another essential consideration before we begin. Most materials can be sourced fairly quickly, but sometimes very specific materials, like reclaimed materials or high-end lumber such as teak, can take time to source. The earlier we begin the work, the more time we have to find the materials perfectly suited for you.

Trim work, furniture restoration, and handy man repairs are outside the scope of services we offer. For projects outside of our wheelhouse, we’re happy to offer recommendations for other contractors to work with.
